Gift Acceptance Policy
The Impact of Your Giving:
Thank you for considering donating to the Branched Oak Observatory. Gifts made to the McDonald Observatory will support science education and public outreach. Hands-on science lessons for students, Visitors Center programs, and (what else can we add here?)
Acceptance Criteria:
We accept gifts that align with our mission and collection goals, including but not limited to telescopes, (you all need to tell me what you accept), and financial contributions.
Items We May Accept:
• Telescopes
• Building Supplies
• Displays
• Financial Donations
Items We May Not Accept:
• Items that fall outside the scope of our collection focus.
• Items in poor condition and cannot be adequately preserved or displayed.
• Items that come with restrictive conditions incompatible with our mission.
Conditions of Acceptance:
• All donations are subject to review and acceptance by the Observatory’s Collections Committee.
• The Observatory reserves the right to decline any gift that does not meet our criteria or is deemed unsuitable for our collection.
• Accepted gifts become the Observatory’s property and may be used for research, educational, or exhibition purposes as deemed appropriate by Observatory staff.
Display and Use:
• While every effort will be made to care for and preserve donated items, the museum cannot guarantee their display or use in exhibitions.
• Donated items may be displayed, stored, or used at the discretion of museum staff, considering conservation, curatorial, and educational considerations.
Acknowledgment:
• Donors will receive a written acknowledgment of their gift, which may include recognition in museum publications or on our website unless anonymity is requested.
