No other volunteers will be needed. \nUpon arrival\, the group will meet in the Kunkel Family Multipurpose Center for a quick welcome\, then head outside for a tour of the different facilities. Afterwards\, they will head back to the multipurpose center for a quick “What’s Up?” program and wait for it to dark. Afterwards\, the group would head outside for a sky orientation\, visit at the BSO to observe\, and use a Seestar on one of the pads in the observing field to see a few galaxies\, nebulae\, and star clusters. \n

SUMMARY:Antelope Memorial Hospital Senior Group
DESCRIPTION:65 seniors from the Antelope Memorial Hospital senior program in Neligh\, Nebraska will be visiting Branched Oak Observatory for a limited “way-stop” visit. \nThey will be arriving at approximately 10:40\, and allow 10 minutes for onboarding and bathroom breaks. \nInside the Multipurpose Center we will offer a short (20min) intro to Branched Oak Observatory program. The program will be delivered ideally by Michael Sibbernsen\, Matthew Anderson\, or both. \nAfterwards\, the group is allowed to sit\, explore the Visitor Center displays\, head outside to sit and rest\, or explore the different observatory buildings. The group will need to start heading back to the bus at 11:55 to load by Noon. \nGroup contact: Tammy Struebing tstruebing@amhne.org \nVolunteer needs: We will require at least one volunteer each at the MARC\, ESSMO\, and BRSC (if we have to\, ESSMO and BRSC could be one person. We will need 1-2 volunteers (who can operate the solar scopes) in the BSO. At least one volunteer will need to stay int eh MPC to host and watch over exhibits. Ideally\, we would have one person available for Gift Shop sales.

DESCRIPTION:60 to 70 student and parents from the Lincoln chapters of the Catholic Schoolhouse homeschool organization will be visiting for astronomy programming. \nHigh School aged – 10\nMiddle School aged – 12\n3rd to 5th grade – 16\nK-2nd grade – 14\nTotal school age: 52\n\nPreschool and toddler: 13\nParents: 23 plus or minus (a few families had a couple parents coming).\n  \nStudents will be broken into 3 groups and listen to a 1) What’s Up in the Summer Sky? Presentation\, 2) Take a Tour of the Observatory\, learn about telescopes\, and safely Observe the Sun. [A short outdoor meteorite presentation will take the place of the solar viewing if cloudy. 3) Outdoor art activity building planispheres and sundials. The three groups will rotate. \n9am – 9:15. Welcomes\, lunch organization\, bathroom visits\, and breaking into groups. \n9:15 – 10:00. Groups 1\,2\,3 \n10:10 – 11:00. Groups 3\,1\,2 \n11:10 – 11:30. LUNCH. Groups  1 & 2 inside. Group 3 Outside. \n11:40 – 12:25. Groups 2\,3\,1 \n12:30 Depart. \n  \nRequired Volunteers: At least 9 (6 are specialized) volunteers will be needed for this group. \nTours and BSO: Solar Viewing– Two volunteers who know how to run the solar telescopes AND who understand solar phenomena. One of these two OR One additional volunteer needs to be able to tour the groups and talk BOO history and facilities. NOTE: If cloudy\, an outdoor meteorite program could be done on the BSO deck. One of the two original volunteers OR One additional volunteer who knows meteorites will be needed. \nMultipurpose Center: What’s Up in the Summer Sky- One advanced astronomy instructor who can present about the Summer constellations and DSOs (preferably with a professional-level PowerPoint presentation)\, as well as answer general astronomy questions. Must know MPC’s AV system and have their own presentation laptop. \nOutdoor Space Craft Activity. At least Two volunteers who know how to deliver the Planisphere and Sundial activities. \nGroup Hosts / Rotation Guides. Three volunteers will be needed\, one for each group to help the visitors get to the right place ON TIME\, and to help each of the station volunteers as needed. \nGift Shop. DESCRIPTION:Open to the General Public – FREE ADMISSION \n\nJoin us for another session of our popular Silent Book Club!\n\nBring your book (or ebook or audiobook w/earbuds) and read quietly for an hour. Or grab a book from our wonderful astronomy library! No pressure\, no book assignments\, no book report…a stress-free opportunity to read under the evening sky. We will have coffee and water on hand\, but feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks. You are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and pillow.\n\n\n\nAfter our silent reading time and optional discussion\, our staff will take you on a tour of the facility and once dark\, observe beautiful objects in the night sky through our various telescopes. Even if the skies are cloudy\, you can enjoy our exhibits and astronomy videos in the Multipurpose Center. Dress warm for the outside observing.\n\n\n\n\n7:30 – 8:00 pm – Gather\, chat\, grab a pastry\, pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea (we’re ok with BYOB too!)\n8:00 – 9:00 pm – Quiet reading of your choice\n9:00 – 9:30 pm – Discuss (or not) as the spirit moves you\n9:30 – 11:00 pm – Enjoy a tour of the observatory\, and weather permitting\, view night sky objects with our collection of telescopes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is no cost for this event. DESCRIPTION:  \nOpen to the General Public – FREE ADMISSION \n\nJoin us for another session of our popular Silent Book Club!\n\nBring your book (or ebook or audiobook w/earbuds) and read quietly for an hour. Or grab a book from our wonderful astronomy library! No pressure\, no book assignments\, no book report…a stress-free opportunity to read under the evening sky. We will have coffee and water on hand\, but feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks. You are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and pillow.\n\n\n\nAfter our silent reading time and optional discussion\, our staff will take you on a tour of the facility and once dark\, observe beautiful objects in the night sky through our various telescopes. Even if the skies are cloudy\, you can enjoy our exhibits and astronomy videos in the Multipurpose Center. Dress warm for the outside observing.\n\n\n\n\n7:30 – 8:00 pm – Gather\, chat\, grab a pastry\, pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea (we’re ok with BYOB too!)\n8:00 – 9:00 pm – Quiet reading of your choice\n9:00 – 9:30 pm – Discuss (or not) as the spirit moves you\n9:30 – 11:00 pm – Enjoy a tour of the observatory\, and weather permitting\, view night sky objects with our collection of telescopes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is no cost for this event. Followed by stargazing until 11pm. \nFREE ADMISSION\nClimate Up Close is a group of climate scientists committed to making the essentials of climate science accessible to a broad audience. We equip Americans to reach their own judgments about climate science by seeing the evidence for themselves and putting their questions directly to climate scientists. Climate Up Close is non- partisan and non-prescriptive. Our scientists volunteer their time\, our events are free and open to the public\, and our tours are supported by small donations.
