DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Branched Oak Observatory crew will be heading to Morrill Hall – The State Museum for their Cosmos & Cocktails event to help publicize the facility and our amazing StarBQ on September 28. \nWe will post a link to make reservations for this event soon. \nBOO Staff. Set up BOO display table or two to advertise our facility and the StarBQ. We will need some NASA giveaways\, star map printouts\, a few meteorites\, and maybe even a raffle prize. Let’s set up a couple of Seestars out on the sidewalk for observations after 8:15 and catch the guests leaving the evening. Arrive at 5PM for set-up. \n  \nMichael and Matt are confirmed and signed up with the university.  Brian and Carol have also been pre-signed up with the university but should only attend IF their schedule allows.

You will see Stormtroopers and other nefarious Star Wars characters roaming the grounds. Luckily for us\, however\, there will also be costumed representatives from the Rebel Legion and maybe even the Mandalorian Mercs to keep those bad guys in-check! Bring your cameras (and lightsabers) for some amazing photo opportunities. Appearing 5:00 to 7:30pm.\n\nFor the kids and young-at-heart\, we will have Space-Crafts\, Science Demonstrations with the UNL Society of Physics Students \, a “touch a meteorite” display\, and a special NASA Exhibit* in the Kunkel Family Multipurpose Center. Outside in the field we will have a play area with Blackhole (our version of Cornhole)\, Bolo Ladder Golf\, and our Giant Moon Map. 5:00-8:00PM\nIn the Boller-Sivil Observatory you will find safe Solar Viewing from 5 to 7pm.\n\nOptional dinner will be available from Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q of Lincoln\, ChiStyle Kitchen\, and Bitez between 5:00-8:00pm.\n\nDuring Dinner\, the Last Minute Band will be playing your favorite Classic Rock. Live music between 5:00-8:00pm\n\nRaffle Tickets will be for sale ($5 ea.) between 5:00 and 8:30pm. The Raffle winners will be announced at 8:30pm. Amazing prizes include a ZWO Seestar S50 Telescope\, and tabletop “dob” telescope\, astrophotography prints\, binoculars\, a deluxe oil change and more! DESCRIPTION:The Comet A3 Star Party at Branched Oak Observatory – October 18th AND 19th\, 7PM – 11PM \nJoin us for a special celestial event that promises to be as thrilling as the Halloween season! On Friday OR Saturday\, October 18th or 19th\, from 7PM to 11PM\, Branched Oak Observatory will host The Comet A3 Star Party\, where we’ll turn our eyes to the night sky for a chance to witness the rare beauty of Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). \nComets are notoriously elusive. Their diffuse brightness\, and many times low position in the sky\, make them difficult to observe\, often requiring a bit of luck and perfect conditions. This comet\, now slowly leaving the inner solar system\, will be faint and fleeting\, but it’s an opportunity not to be missed! We encourage you to arrive around 7PM to get situated\, but make Be sure you are here between 8 and 9PM for the best chance to see the comet. \nIn addition to the challenge of spotting Comet A3\, we’ll also explore some of the night sky’s more familiar wonders. Gaze at the spectacular Saturn with its brilliant rings\, marvel at the luminous glow of the Moon\, and dive deep into the universe with views of distant galaxies and nebulae. \nEmbrace the eerie vibe of October as we combine the mystery of the cosmos with the spooky season. You are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and pillow.\n\n\n\nAfter our silent reading time and optional discussion\, our staff will take you on a tour of the facility and once dark\, observe beautiful objects in the night sky through our various telescopes. Even if the skies are cloudy\, you can enjoy our exhibits and astronomy videos in the Multipurpose Center. Dress warm for the outside observing.\n\n\n\nThere is no cost for this event.
